As we reported earlier this week, lawyers across the United Kingdom have been put at risk due to the ongoing anti-immigration riots that have swept through the country. The groups rallying these violent protests have published online a target list of legal professionals, including their addresses. In the wake of these threats, the Law Society has advised that lawyers work from home, but if they must work from the office, to be incredibly careful to maintain their safety.

At least one Biglaw firm — Clifford Chance — has taken this messaging to heart, and will be temporarily suspending its in-office attendance policy. Legal Cheek has additional details:

The Magic Circle firm confirmed that UK lawyers and staff concerned about their safety could work from home for the remainder of this week and next.

A firm spokesperson said this move was to enable colleagues to work from home where they have security concerns about traveling to and from work or logistical challenges.

Clifford Chance’s hybrid work policy, which has been put on hold due to these exigent circumstances, required employees to spend at least 50% of their time in the office over a two-week period.

Have any other Biglaw firms issued remote work orders due to the dangerous conditions presented due to these protests? Please get in touch and let us know. Thanks.
