Kamala Harris’s (Not So Secret) Weapon? Paul Weiss.

Democratic Presidential Candidates Attend Forum On Wages And Working People

From almost the moment that Kamala Harris scooted up to the top of the 2024 Democratic ticket, leaders at Biglaw firm Paul Weiss were on board. Chair Brad Karp offered fundraising and voter protection service. Karen Dunn, litigation department co-chair, is helping Harris with debate prep.

But the support goes deeper. According to reporting by Reuters, this election year Paul Weiss employees have given more to Democratic candidates — $1.4 million — than any other law firm. And notable partners at the firm are coming out in support of Harris.

Several other partners at the firm support Harris’ candidacy.

Former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag, former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson — all Paul Weiss partners — are among former Democratic officials who have publicly endorsed her.

And while some, like Jeff Hauser, founder of the Revolving Door Project, see potential issues, “There is definitely a concern that the revolving door between the Democratic Party and Biglaw serves the interests of not only the politicians but clients of the revolving-door official,” he said. Given the legitimate worry for the rule of law that would arise under a second Trump administration, perhaps it isn’t nefarious at all that lawyers and legal industry employees are far, far more likely to donate to the Democratic candidate for president this year.
