As ILTACON 2024 approaches, NetDocuments is excited to share a value-packed lineup of activities designed to enhance your conference experience.

Whether you’re looking to deepen your knowledge on AI, automation, Microsoft 365, Teams, and more; see live product demonstrations; or network with industry leaders and peers, the company’s events have something for everyone.

Here, NetDocuments Chief Product Officer Dan Hauck shares what you can expect at the NetDocuments booth, his past ILTACON experiences, and what all lawyers can do to be on the cutting edge of legal tech.

(Dan won’t say it, but we will! He was named to the 2024 Fastcase 50 for his continuous innovation and work in AI, and he was a finalist for ILTA’s 2024 Innovative Leader of the Year, adding to his many previous honors.)

ILTACON attendees: You’ll have myriad opportunities to catch up with Dan and the NetDocuments team at the conference this year. Here’s a rundown of their many offerings.

ATL: Can you briefly tell us about your company and the problems you solve?

DH: That’s simple: We help legal professionals do their best work. For over 25 years, we’ve been the leading cloud content platform for law firms, law departments, and more. Much of that time, we focused on managing documents and email. But in the past few years, we’ve added legal workflow capabilities that let our customers do more than ever before – automate documents, create binders, work with Teams – using the same trusted platform. And most recently, we’ve added generative AI capabilities with ndMAX. Today, customers are drafting, editing, summarizing, and extracting knowledge and insights from their own content using ndMAX.

Will you be seeing the sights in Nashville this year?

The conference keeps me pretty booked, but I will definitely be at the Grand Ole Opry on Wednesday night for our NetDocuments event. I’ve never been there before, so I’m looking forward to experiencing that historic part of the Nashville scene.

What else can ILTACON attendees expect when they stop by your booth?

Real-world, practical, seamless AI experiences. We introduced ndMAX at ILTACON last year, so we will be showing everything that customers have been able to do on our platform using generative AI over the past 12 months. It’s pretty impressive to see what that looks like: from simple summarization and drafting apps to complex data extractions, contract analyses and playbooks, and more – all using the same platform. We have customers at every stage of the AI journey, and ndMAX can support them.

If you stop by, you can also check out our recently announced Copilot integration. Many customers want ndMAX to connect Copilot with their content in NetDocuments, and we are doing exactly that.

Is there anything new you’re showcasing at ILTACON this year?

Absolutely. We are expanding ndMAX in some pretty exciting ways. We’re announcing new gen-AI capabilities that make it easy to engage with intelligent, content-based AI workflows in more places across our platform. This means you’ll never need to worry about “going somewhere else” in order to use AI. It’s all right where lawyers are already working in NetDocuments.

We’re also introducing new productivity experiences centered around Microsoft 365 technologies. From Teams to Copilot to co-authoring, we are connecting into where and how lawyers work with Microsoft technologies. Our Company Update on Tuesday, August 13 from 2-3pm in Delta A will cover it all, including stories and insights from our customers and Microsoft. Don’t miss it!

Can you provide some more detail on the problems you solve and benefits you provide?

NetDocuments helps law firms with their critical output: work product. In part, that means we are the system of record for the firm’s client files. It also means we are the knowledge and experience repository for their entire organization. And last but not least, it means we enable easy ways to create, collaborate, secure, and share legal work product. As a cloud-based platform with robust APIs, customers can also connect to many of the other tools legal teams use daily, such as DocuSign for easy e-signatures and multiple e-filing and practice management solutions.

What’s one thing lawyers can do to be more tech savvy?

I think lawyers are actually really good at picking up new technology once they see the value of it. That’s when lawyers engage, and they can take it to another level, elevating the way they practice. But lawyers also need to balance the risks of trying something new: making a mistake can be costly, financially or professionally.

So for lawyers, being more tech savvy means understanding the risks of trying something new and ensuring you know how to mitigate those risks. With generative AI, lawyers need to become more familiar with how AI works and the right ways to use it responsibly. Technology partners like NetDocuments can help with that. With AI, we worked with Microsoft early on to receive “zero retention” exceptions so that the firm’s work product would never be exposed to human review.

Of course, there are a lot of good places to learn … I encourage lawyers to attend industry events like ILTACON and ABA Techshow where they can meet with other peers and IT professionals … or simply stay informed on legal tech trends by subscribing to blogs, newsletters, and publications like Above the Law. Bringing this knowledge back into their own areas of practice can allow those lawyers to distinguish themselves as industry leaders.

Is there anything else you’d like ILTACON attendees to know about you?

I’m excited to be back in Nashville. It’s where I attended my first ILTACON in 2014, and many of the friends and relationships I’ve made started at that conference 10 years ago. ILTACON continues to be a place for building community. I started as a lawyer before moving into legal tech, and I remain passionate about innovation in the legal profession.
