Lawyer Disbarred For Sexual Abuse

Gavel And Scales Of Justice On Desk In Law OfficeOur highest courts do more than take cases on appeal and collect, ahem, gifts — they also play a vital role in regulating who gets to practice the law. Wyoming’s Supreme Court recently tapped into that responsibility and disbarred an attorney for his behavior in Utah. Cap City has coverage:

The Wyoming Supreme Court has issued an order disbarring attorney Samuel W. Cantrell from the practice of law. The disbarment resulted from Cantrell’s guilty plea to two second-degree felony counts of forcible sexual abuse stemming from charges in the District Court of the Second Judicial District in and for the County of Davis, State of Utah.

Sometimes it is welcome news to learn that someone cannot practice law anymore. This is one of those times. After Cantrell was sentenced for his abuse charge, he was suspended from practicing in Wyoming because he failed to pay his license fees. He won’t have to worry about paying them ever again.
