Associate hiring is on the rise amid rosy projections for law firm finances next year, according to recruiters who spoke with Law360.

“Typically August is a very slow month,” said Jacqueline Bokser LeFebvre, a managing director with Major Lindsey & Africa, in an interview with Law360. “This year it’s been anything but.”

Kristin Stark, a principal at Fairfax Associates, told Law360 the strong job market is related to projections for increased profitability and revenue growth for law firms.

“If you’re a law school student or a young attorney right now looking ahead, I think you can rest assured law firms will continue to add attorneys at a very robust clip,” Stark said.

Law firms continue to be picky, however. LeFebvre says law firms are still looking for graduates of top law schools or associates with BigLaw experience.

And demand is highest in only a few practice areas: corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and litigation, LeFebvre told Law360.
