The NSW-based institution is the second Australian university to establish an offshore campus in the newly constructed central business district – the GIFT City.
Similar to Deakin University, which started welcoming students to its India campus in July, the University of Wollongong (UOW) will be offering postgraduate courses.
Although Deakin offers courses in Cyber Security and Business Analytics, UOW will start its programs in Computing and Financial Technology in November.
UOW India will offer Master of Computing with a specialisation in Data Analytics, Graduate Certificate in Computing, Master of Financial Technology, Extended Master of Financial Technology, and Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology.
Since initiating the application process in February 2024, UOW India has received over 700 applications for its programs, which have 50 seats each.
Students will need an undergraduate degree or relevant work experience, and a satisfactory English language assessment to apply for the postgraduate programs.
The institute has already introduced scholarships for students applying for the November intake, such as Women Leaders in FinTech scholarship and the ‘InAugural Scholarship’.
The first program encourages female participation in India’s fintech industry, offering eligible students a 50% fee waiver.
While the latter offers students a 50% tuition reduction on all Master’s degrees for the first trimester and a 25% discount on all Graduate Certificate programs for the first trimester.

“Fintech is no longer the future, it is the present. Blockchain systems, cryptocurrency, insurtech, peer-to-peer payments – these are integral to our daily lives.”
Moreover, the UOW India has joined hands with IBM, providing access to the multinational tech company’s Innovation Centre for Education.
This will help students train in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cyber security, and blockchain.

The partnership will also enable placement opportunities for the students, as per UOW officials.
Though UOW was supposed to open its India campus in July, problems related to severe monsoon and water logging led to delays in arranging essential services for the campus.
Instead, the university organised a series of events to provide students with a taste of campus life leading up to the November launch.
