The Donald Trump hush money trial has taught us a lot about the National Enquirer’s casual relationship with journalistic ethics. And while its former leadership spills everything, Judge Judy has decided to piss on their leg and tell them it’s not raining with a big fanfare defamation suit against Accelerate360 Media, the parent company of both the Enquirer and InTouch.

Last month, the pair of publications wrote stories claiming that Judge Judy was trying to help the Menendez brothers get a new trial. She is… not doing that at all.

From the AP:

“When you fabricate stories about me in order to make money for yourselves with no regard for the truth or the reputation I’ve spent a lifetime cultivating, it’s going to cost you,” she said in a statement. “When you’ve done it multiple times, it’s unconscionable and will be expensive. It has to be expensive so that you will stop.”

It doesn’t hurt that David Pecker’s been on the stand explaining in detail how the Enquirer invented stories by mashing pictures together to tie Ted Cruz’s father to the Kennedy assassination. While Pecker no longer runs the dubious rag, Judge Judy seems to recognize the serendipitous timing in filing a lawsuit while the defendant’s reputation is being dragged in the most publicized trial in the world.
