Former Prosecutor Charged Over Threatening Twitter Posts

954792Every once in a while, you read something that makes you go “Ah, that’s why background checks are important!” A (thankfully) former Illinois prosecutor was fired not long after he was alleged to have made some pretty inflammatory posts on Twitter. Now, before you get all “cancel culture is our modern day scourge” over this, you should read what he said. The ABA Journal has coverage:

Samuel J. Cundari, 30, is facing a federal charge of transmitting a threat to injure another person in interstate commerce, according to a May 24 press release by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Central District of Illinois.

The post read: “Our patience grows short with you. The day we put your kids feet first into a woodchipper so we can enjoy their last few screams is coming.”

Cundari didn’t just throw this out into the ether, no — the fool allegedly decided to tag two state representatives on the post. Kudos for messing up twice in one fell swoop!

He allegedly left the second post under an ad for the Springfield, Illinois, PrideFest that may very well be worse than the “feeding kids through a grinder and relishing their cries” tweet:

“I sure hope NOBODY leaves a pressure cooker filled with ball bearings, glass and nails, filled with diesel fuel and fertilizer, with the over pressure safety valve disabled, near a natural gas line. That would be VERY sad and VERY unfortunate.”

Who the hell does this guy think he is, Jigsaw? That’s literally the last person you want to be involved in making any prosecutorial decisions. And this isn’t like it’s some transactional lawyer who decided to make these posts. Cundari, then an employee of the “we lock people up for doing shit like that” part of the government, should have known that he could face some serious charges for allegedly doing shit like this.

When confronted with his posts, he told the FBI that he was just joking. Welp, joke’s on him — bomb threats are no laughing matter. Heads up to any other state, vet your prosecutors’ social media accounts for mess like this every once in a while. Never know what you’ll find!
