Merrick Garland Thinks He’s Way Smarter Than Aileen Cannon

We should be referring to Merrick Garland as Justice Garland. If not for the unprecedented machinations of Mitch McConnell, Garland would occupy Antonin Scalia’s seat on the Supreme Court. Before he was Attorney General of the United States, Garland was a respected jurist on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit for over 20 years. He’s absolutely someone who knows quite a bit about the law.

Contrast that with Trump-appointed federal district judge Aileen Cannon. Sure, she showed her whole ass as a partisan hack willing to do the bidding of Donald Trump, but her lack of experience and chaotic courtroom management are just as noteworthy.

Cannon, quite infamously, dismissed the federal classified documents case against Trump. She held — without actual legal precedent — that special prosecutor in charge of the case, Jack Smith, isn’t a real boy because Congress didn’t vote to confirm him.

And Merrick Garland? He took that personally.

In an interview with NBC, Garland was asked about Cannon’s ruling. His response is stone fucking cold.

“Look as you well know, I picked this room for this interview,” Garland said. “This is my favorite room in the Justice Department. It’s a law library. For more than 20 years I was a federal judge. Do I look like somebody who would make that basic mistake about the law? I don’t think so.”

Garland continued, “Our position is that it’s constitutional and valid. That’s why we appealed.”

Boom. Let’s hope the Eleventh Circuit makes quick work of Cannon’s decision. Again.
