State Judges *Really* Need To Be Paid More

Nobody has ever suggested that the highest judges in the state ought to make the same as equity partners, but the idea that they should make less than first-year associates to me is not a reasonable idea.

—Former Georgia Supreme Court Justice Keith Blackwell, now senior counsel at Alston & Bird, told Law.com that state judges simply aren’t getting paid enough money. On average, judges on their state’s highest court make a little more than $200,000 per year… which is absolutely less than someone fresh out of law school working as a Biglaw first year associate.
