From jump, Alina Habba hasn’t been a typical lawyer. Her grasp of basic legal concepts is questionable, at best. Her role as an attorney for Donald Trump has seemed more akin to a hype man than provider of sound legal counsel.
Now that the 2024 election season is in full swing, Habba’s role has shifted — yet again — to do whatever it is Trump needs. Trump came under widespread attack for spreading falsehoods about the identity of his opponent, Kamala Harris, saying she “happened to turn Black,” implying she did it to win favor with the electorate. Of course, that is just not true — Harris, who attended an historically Black college and is a member of an historically Black sorority, is of Tamil and Jamaican heritage and has been very upfront about all of those facts.
Yesterday, Habba appeared at a Trump rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and she was happy to spread the racist attack on Harris, saying, “I’m going to speak to you, Miss Harris. I’m a strong woman, a mom, a lawyer and an American. And unlike you, Kamala, I know who my roots are, I know where I come from and I don’t play around with the Constitution.”
Ew. The racist attacks just aren’t going to stop.
Habba was already a joke as a lawyer, but this *should* smash whatever reputation as an attorney she has left. Seriously, could you imagine an actually well-respected conservative lawyer, like Paul Clement for example, out there stumping for a candidate with such poorly phrased, patently false, and racially charged insults?
