Tools to make your digital content inclusive (and effective)

“Inclusive

The good news: There are a ton of great tools that can help you make your digital content accessible and inclusive.

The bad news: well-designed accessible content is still uncommon. Too many content creators just aren’t paying attention to this. That includes many nonprofits. Even those whose mission includes promoting accessibility!

Here are some excellent tools to improve your fundraising. Most of these are from the TrueSense blog at The Ultimate Guide to Tools for Digital Accessibility.

PDF Accessibility Checker. This is built in to Adobe Acrobat Pro. It looks at a PDF and points out issues you should fix to make it fully accessible.

Color Contrast Checkers. Color contrast is important for those with low vision or color blindness.

Keyboard Navigation Tools. Not all people are able to use a mouse to navigate digital content. They need to be able to move freely around a document with the keyboard only. WebAIM’sKeyboard Accessibility Testing tool is built into most web browsers’ developer tools.

Accessibility Validators. These tools scan your website for accessibility issues that need attention.

Accessibility Plugins and CMS Extensions.

Responsive Design Testing Tool. Helps you make your design accessible across different devices and screen sizes: BrowserStack.
