Faux Biglaw Lawyer Pleads Guilty To Social Security Fraud, Gets Prison Time

Empty prison cell jailLosing your law license is the end of most lawyer’s legal careers. Richard Crosby III was an exception. He didn’t let a little thing like being disbarred over stealing client money stop him from getting offers from several different firms. Fox has coverage:

A former congressional candidate turned disbarred Cincinnati attorney and convicted felon for stealing money from clients pleaded guilty to more felony charges this week.

Richard Crosby III admitted Tuesday to using false identities – belonging to his father, a girlfriend, a dead man and others – to get high-paying jobs from at least seven different law firms, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of Social Security number fraud and has agreed to a sentence recommendation of 37 months in prison.

Crosby also says he will pay nearly $171,000 in restitution to law firms he defrauded.

It’s hard enough to get a Biglaw gig as it is. He must have had a stellar resume to dupe seven firms into hiring him! Leaving out the felony and disbarment probably helped his chances. Once the prison and restitution is behind him, hopefully he will take his know-how to find some lucrative (and legal) employment. He’s clearly well suited to help other people get high-paying legal jobs. Just make sure that the Social Security number you’re using matches up to the actual applicant this time.
