This week in numbers: Dickinson State president to step down after nursing faculty exits

We’re rounding up our top recent stories, from Dickinson State University’s president announcing he will step down amid staffing issues to a federal judge hitting pause on the new Title IX rule in yet another state.

The number of full-time nursing faculty at Dickinson State University until last week — when the whole group resigned en masse to protest new workload policies. President Steve Easton announced Monday he will step down in the wake of that action so that the university could rehire the faculty.

Texas joined the group Tuesday when a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction and said the state will likely win its lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education.

The donation Florida A&M University announced it had received in May, before backpedaling after questions about the gift’s true value emerged. Now, President Larry Robinson has announced he will resign from his post, though his final day as the university’s leader has not been set.

The number of hours students will have to complete a new, shortened version of the ACT, down from three hours, according to the exam company. Changes will be launched as part of the digital version of the exam in spring 2025 and for in-person test takers the following year.
